What Kindergarten Teachers Know  is grounded in an understanding of how young children develop, with practical and meaningful insights for parents into how their children best grow and learn. The book guides parents through teacher-tested techniques to help their children think independently, handle conflict and appreciate a strong sense of community.

The book is designed to give parents the tools to tackle the most frustrating, exhausting or confrontational parts of their day. Importantly, the book is based on the idea that every parent should be true to their own parenting style -- so the techniques are clearly explained, easily adaptable and require no special training or preparation.

It was published in May 2008 by the Perigee division of Penguin Books, and was co-authored by Lisa Holewa and Joan Rice.
